Lakhisarai
Town in Bihar, India
Lakhisarai
Lakhisarai is considered to be a pilgrimage site since the 8th century, when Pala emperor Narayana Pala started Shiva worship here. In the 12th century, a local ruler called Indradyumna built a Shiva temple here. It is said to be demolished since, with no remains of the temple. In 1977, two boys Ashok and Gajanand discovered a large lingam (abstract representation of Shiva) beneath the ground. This prompted a construction of a new temple at the site, making it a modern pilgrimage site.
